Frances Segismundo Tattoo Session

The New Museum is teaming up with Ace Hotel New York and Ace Hotel Brooklyn for an eight-part series that animates our shared interests in discovery and commitment to artistic pursuits. The yearlong lineup will activate the hotels with co-curated pop-ups, artist conversations, screenings, and more!

This May, the New Museum Store and Ace Hotel Brooklyn are proud to present a special pop-up tattoo parlor. Featuring renowned artists Jess Chen, Gossamer Rozen, Francis Segismundo, and Amanda Wachob–whose practices incorporate tattoo–the pop-up parlor and panel discussion will take place at Ace Hotel Brooklyn.

Frances Segismundo is an interdisciplinary tattoo artist whose work reimagines the boundaries between fine art and tattoo craftsmanship. She explores conceptual ideas of our relationship with ourselves through the experience of getting tattooed. Frances works at Yarrow, an artist-run private studio based in Brooklyn. She has had shows with Brooklyn Arts Fellowship, Site: Brooklyn, and Two Thirty-One Projects, and has presented in galleries across London, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

Frances will have 3 tattoo sessions on Friday May 13th at 11am, 1pm and 4pm; each session will last approximately 1.5 hours, therefore each tattoo will have to be no larger than 4”. Frances will work collaboratively with each participant, creating an unique freehand design. The artwork illustrated here are examples of her previous works. Tattoo placement will be arms only.

All participants must adhere to the following safety protocols:
- Be age 18 and over at the time of the session.
- Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
- Wear a mask throughout the session.
- Certify that they have not contracted Covid-19 within 14 days of the tattoo session.

All sessions are sold out, if you wish to be placed on a waitlist, please email store[at]newmuseum.org.
