This catalog is published in conjunction with the New Museum exhibition Carol Rama: Antibodies (April 26– September 10, 2017). Carol Rama: Antibodies, is the first New York museum survey of Rama's work and the largest presentation of her work in the US to date. It includes more than 150 works, from Rama's early 1930s watercolor drawings, which anticipated debates on sexuality, gender and representation, to her "mad cow" series of the late 1990s and early 2000s, which continues her ongoing representation of forms of contagion and madness. Bringing together this unique body of work, the exhibition highlights Rama as one of the most important voices of the twentieth century and draws attention to the relevance of her work.

This catalog features an insightful new essay by Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer and an interview with Carol Rama by the art historian Lea Vergine, translated into English for the first time and published here with a new introduction. The artist Danh Võ, who has shown his own work alongside Rama's, contributes a visual essay featuring images taken in Rama's studio and home.
