Each garden marker is hand cast in Laos and engraved in the US. 80% of the Laotian population works as subsistence farmers. Bringing another meaning to "farm to table", Laotian villagers literally eat what they harvest. However, during the Secret War between 1964 and 1973, 30% of the bombs dropped did not detonate. This means that unexploded ordnance continues to litter Lao farms and fields creating a food security issue and an additional barrier to economic development. For each set sold, a donation equivalent to the cost of clearing 5 square meters of Lao land will be made in addition to providing higher than local market income for artisan families and investment in the village development fund.
Set includes Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, and Basil.
